Compact, Amsonia "Blue Ice' is an erect, clump-forming perennial adorned with pretty clusters of periwinkle blue, star-shaped flowers in early spring. Opening up from plump navy blue buds, they bloom for 4-6 weeks and rise atop erect, leafy stems above a graceful foliage of willow-shaped, bright green leaves. The foliage turns a rich shade of golden-yellow in the fall, extending the season of interest of this plant. Slowly spreading by very short rhizomes, Blue Ice adds a billowy, finely textured element to the landscape, and is a first-rate garden plant.
