Fox Sedge grows in a variety of open, moist habitats and is tolerant of part shade and poorly drained clay soils.  It actively grows during the spring and fall when soil temperatures are cool, forming beautiful fine-leaved mounds, two feet in diameter.  The name comes from its seed head, which resembles a fox's tail.

Direct sow seeds after 60 days of cold, moist stratification, or sow seeds outdoors in the fall or winter.  Seeds should be surface-sown with no soil cover.  Cover with a burlap or cotton sheet to keep moist.
