Marigold flowers resemble small carnations and are variably colored yellow, orange or reddish brown. They attract butterflies and hummingbirds and are often recommended as companion plants for several vegetables. Deer do not like them. Direct sow soon after last frost or start 4-6 weeks indoors beforehand. Sow less than 1" deep. Transplant after danger of frost has passed spacing 10-12" apart.
