A clump forming onion family member native to southeast Asia. The flat straplike leaves have a garlicky onion taste. Tiny star-shaped white flowers bloom late summer to fall. Plants self-sow regularly, so dead head flowers before they set seed. Also often called Chinese chives, because the plant is often used in Chinese cooking. The flowers are also edible. Deer resistant.
Direct sow in late fall, 1/4" deep or in early spring when the soil has warmed.
