This native is a member of the Aster family and thrives in full sun. While the name Swamp Sunflower would indicate it requires moist soil, this plant grows in wet to dry sites and even in soil with clay. It is ideal for meadows or the back of a perennial bed as the plant can get taller than 5 feet. It rapidly spreads through rhizomes. The bright yellow flowers add color as the summer fades and attracts a large amount of pollinators.
Seed can be directly surface sown in late fall or winter or in the spring after cold stratification for 30 days
