An annual hibiscus. It self-seeds easily. Related to okra, reminiscent in its large seed pods. Another name for the plant is Sunset muskmallow. Muskmallow refers to the seed pod which has a musky odor and has been used in perfumery. Easily grown in moist, well-drained soil. Does well in containers. Both flowers and leaves are edible. 
Start indoors 2 weeks before last frost, sowing 1/4 " deep. Germinates in under 30 days. Transplant after all danger of frost. It also self sows.
