Relatively tall (about 7'), showy, and reliable, making it a desired species in many tallgrass prairie restoration projects. It also attracts many pollinators and songbirds, so it is an excellent choice for bird lovers. This plant adapts well to clay, rocky, or shallow soil. Deer resistant. Mix seed with moist sand and refrigerator for 30 days. Plant in slightly moist warm soil (65-70F). Direct sow in late fall, plant 1/2" deep.
