Rose Mallow is an herbaceous perennial native to low, marshy sites in eastern North America. Thomas Jefferson mentioned a number of hibiscus and mallows, including "Hibiscus moschentos", in his only published book, Notes on the State of Virginia (1781). The mid-summer flowers are 5-8" in diameter with pink petals and often a reddish-purple eye.
Before planting, soak seed in warm water until they sink. Start seed indoor 8 to 10 weeks before last frost, or direct sow in late fall, 1/4" deep.
