Giving Back Grant Program

Every year, Rockbridge Area Master Gardeners (RAMGA) holds a community grant program. RAMGA will provide awards of between $300-$600 to nonprofits (including schools) for projects that align with RAMGA’s mission, which is to educate and inform the community about sustainable horticultural.
 

Grant applications can be submitted until close of business on March 6, 2026 and applicants will be informed of RAMGA’s decision by March 20, 2026.

Grant Criteria

Eligibility:

  • Must be a Rockbridge County Virginia nonprofit organization including but not limited to schools, community centers, rehabilitation facilities, nursing homes and public libraries.

  • Projects should align with RAMGA’s mission statement. Examples would be native, pollinator and natural habitat planting, fruit or vegetable gardens, public gardens (vegetable and flower), raising plants for sale (4-H), composting, purchasing plant labels and gardening tools or similar that are considered to have educational value, reduce food insecurity, or have a positive environmental impact (which could include removal of invasive plants)

  • Projects must not use/introduce invasive plants

  • Project must take place on public or nonprofit-owned property

  • Awardees are expected to provide updates and a post project presentation to the Grant Committee

Award Amount:

  • Minimum of $300.00 and maximum of $600.00

  • RAMGA reserves the right to partially fund projects

  • Applications are accepted once every 3 years for repeat applicants

Application Requirements:

  • Signed letter of support from School Principal for all school projects Reporting and Compliance:

  • All applications must be complete to be eligible

  • Incomplete applications will be deemed to be ineligible

  • Award funds are to be used solely for garden expenses including tools, plants and seeds, plant stakes and other material needed for planting

  • Award funds may not be used for indirect expenses like food, travel, computers, cameras, software, speaker fees, salaries or field trips

  • Awardee must complete a post award report. Failing to do so will make them ineligible for future awards.

Awardee holds full legal and financial responsibility for its project.
