Virginia Wild Rye is a native perennial cool-season, clumping ornamental grass.  It actively grows during the spring and fall when soil temperatures are cool and is a good choice for erosion control and stream bank stabilization. It is easy to grow in moist, fertile, well-drained loams in full sun to part shade and tolerates a wide range of soil types. Virginia Wild Rye turns attractive shades of tan and crimson in the fall. Readily reseeds.

Seed should be planted directly in a clean, firm, weed free seedbed in the fall at a depth of approximately ¼ to ½ inch in heavy soils, and up to 1 inch deep in sandy soils.
